Sodium intake is not something many people really consider until they start developing symptoms such as high blood pressure, poor artery function, water retention and/or a host of other issues. The negative effects of too much sodium in the diet can happen slowly over a lifetime or on a short-term basis such as injuring your arteries even as soon as 30 minutes after a meal. Learning to be conscious of sodium intake before any issues arise is a good first step in the direction of optimal health.
It’s important to note that salt itself is not the enemy and humans do need about 500 mg a day. The problem is the added salts hiding in the processed foods that are part of the standard American diet. Eating these foods makes efforts to lower your overall sodium intake nearly impossible, even if you never reach for the salt shaker. Foods are often deliberately developed to be high in salt to enhance the flavor and keep you coming back for more.
Fortunately, many of our organic and kosher certified products meet the criteria for a low sodium diet (less than 140 mg per serving). All flavors of our fully sprouted Manna Breads are made with no added salt at all! They also have no added sugars, yeast, oil, preservatives or flour. Sodium can naturally occur in the whole food, plant-based ingredients we use which is why you’ll see a very small amount of sodium listed on the nutritional panel of some of the breads. This naturally occurring sodium from foods is actually what our bodies evolved to rely on for sodium intake, and is a great way to meet our daily sodium requirements.
All except one of our organic nut butters also fall into either the no salt added or low sodium category! Our Sprouted Almond Espresso Manna Butter is just slightly over the threshold to be considered low sodium.
Looking for snacks or breakfasts food that aren’t loaded with salt? Our sprouted Snack Crunchies are made with just a touch of Himalayan pink salt and are low in sodium.
Our new line of nut flours (including Sprouted Almond Flour, Natural Almond Flour and Cashew Flour) are all made with one single ingredient and are the perfect paleo, grain-free and no salt added addition to your baked goods.
Turning towards a diet which contains whole food ingredients such as grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables and legumes is a great start toward better health with the added benefit of lowering your daily salt intake.
